McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release
MSTR is a simple, effective scar release technique developed by Bowen Therapist, Alastair McLoughlin. It involves non-invasive moves over the scar that help realign collagen so the skin can move better, the appearance of the scar changes, and adhesions to other structures let go.
All scars represent a trauma to the body. The development of scar tissue leaves the skin stiff, hard, sometimes puckered, or puffy as the collagen is laid down in unnatural patterns. Normally, skin is quite elastic, but scar tissue is not. It could be compared to sewing a pair of tights with fishing line- there is no give! This can have an adverse effect on mobility. Over time, the scar tissue can continue to grow and can attach itself to other structures. One example is c-section scars which can attach themselves to the bowel, bladder, lower back, etc., causing stiffness, burning, and pain. |
Scar tissue can impede blood and lymph flow to the area affected so a scar can be numb or cold.
Scars can also harbour bacteria and even emotions. Do you know anyone who gets angry or sad at the sight of their scar? With MSTR, these emotions can also be released.
